Software usage

1. The software crashes when I want to complete my order?
  • There could be corrupt file on the page, on which the software crashes;
  • The background image could be too large or cropped extremely, with a mask over it;
  • One or more image became corrupt after cropping.

2. I clicked on the “Shopping Trolley” followed the steps, yet my internet browser displays a blank page?
  • This happens when you have not defined a default browser on your PC.
  • Download Mozilla Firefox, upon installation you will be asked whether you would like to set Firefox as your default browser, select yes set as default.
  • Return to the software and try again

3. I get a message “Error communicating with the server” or “Could not locate server”?
  • Check your internet connection.
  • A 3G connection may cause problems at times, ensure you have a strong connection at your current location
  • Check whether your Windows Firewall is switched ON, disconnect it briefly and try again.
  • Are you working from your office? Ask your Technical Department whether you are running a Proxy server. UNFORTUNATELY the software will not be able to connect if you are using a Proxy server. Refer to point 10 in the Technical section of the FAQ
  • Antivirus software may cause the software not to connect to the server. Switch OFF your antivirus momentarily and try again.

4. I have a poem / letter / magazine article which I would like to use in my book. Do I have to retype it?
  • If the document is in a digital format, you can copy it directly out of the document into your layout
  • Process: - Select the text you wish to copy, press CTRL + C (copy) on the keyboard.
  • Open the page you wish to copy the text to, create a text box, double click the text box and paste CTRL + V (paste) the text in the text box.
  • You will be able to edit the font, size, color of the text after you have pasted it.

5. When I zoom in my pictures look “blurry”?
  • When you zoom in on a page in Picasso your pictures may appear 'blurry' or 'blurred'. If this is the case, right click on the pictures and select "Show High Quality Picture" from the pop-up menu. This will’re-draw' the picture and make it much sharper.

6. What happens if I get warning triangles with the 'low quality message'?
  • Most images will reproduce fine in the printed product, seeing that the image resolution and page resolution was set high for quality purposes. If you have images from a mobile phone or a low Megapixel (2 Megapixel for example) camera then the finished print quality will only be as good as the image provided.

7. How do I crop an image after I have placed it into a picture box?
  • Double click on the photo that you want to crop. The image box editor will open and then you can define the area you want by dragging the corners of the ‘crop box’

8. Can I use one of my own images as a background image?
  • Yes – ‘Drag and drop’ the picture onto the page, right click your mouse on the image and select fit to page or spread.

9. My picture resizes when I rotate it, what can I do to fix this?
  • You will need to open the image box editor by double clicking and selecting the area of the picture that you want to be displayed by dragging the corners of the image box.

10. Can I edit text after I have added it to my book?
  • Yes. Double click the text box. The text box editor will open. Please note that only a certain amount of fonts on your PC will be displayed in the text box editor.

11. When I open an existing project I get a thumbnail error and the software shuts down?
  • The thumbnail cache in your project has become corrupt. To reset the cache do the following:-
    • 1. Close the software (if it’s not closed already);
    • 2. Hold down the SHIFT key on the keyboard;
    • 3. Click the ‘Open an existing project’ button (while holding down the shift key);
    • 4. You will hear a ‘ping’ sound, which means the cache has been reset.
  • Continue with your photo book as normal.

12. How do I get my picture boxes to be in a straight line?
  • Hold down the SHIFT key on your keyboard and click on the picture boxes that you want to align. A blue line will appear around the images after you have selected it.
  • Right click on any of the selected picture boxes. Click on the ‘align’ option and choose the desired type of alignment.
Technical

1. Do I need an internet connection to use the Picasso Photo book software?
  • Unfortunately YES. You will be able to do your layout, but you won’t be able to complete your order for printing if you don’t have an internet connection. You also need an internet connection to download any available updates.

2. Can I print my Picasso Photo book pages myself?
  • No. The Picasso Photo book software will only export encrypted files that we print on our presses. You are able to use a feature called "Create Proofs" which will allow you to create JPG proofs of each page which you can print and check using your own computer printer. The pages are set at low quality as they are proofs only and not for reproduction. Proofs also have a "Proof" message superimposed on them.

3. What resolution should my images be?
  • Ideally, and for best results, pictures used in Picasso should be 300dpi. Most digital cameras will allow pictures to be taken at 300dpi, though some will offer this through a setting on the camera such as "High" or "Fine".
  • The golden rule is that if you put quality pictures in, you will get quality pictures back, in your products. Neither the Picasso software or print processes will add any more detail to your pictures than is already there, so you should note this when using pictures that are not good quality.

4. Why do I need to register at all?
  • Registration will give you access to additional features not available to unregistered users. It only takes a few moments to register and is compulsory to do so otherwise you will not be able to complete your orders.

5. Why can’t I login?
  • There are several reasons why this could occur. The first time you complete an order you will need to create an “account”. If you have done this already then check your username and password is correct. If they are it is also possible that you could be experiencing difficulty communicating with the server, check your internet connection.

6. I registered but cannot login?
  • First, check your username and password. Please note that the login details are case sensitive and should be entered exactly as given to you. If you were sent an e-mail, follow the instructions. If you did not receive an e-mail, you may have provided an incorrect e-mail address or the e-mail may have been picked up by a spam filer. If you are sure the e-mail address you provided is correct, try contacting the technical support department.

7. I’ve lost my password!
  • Don’t panic! While your password cannot be retrieved, it can easily be reset. Visit the login page and click “I’ve forgotten my password.” Follow the instructions, you will receive a “password reset” email and you should be able to log in again shortly.
  • Alternatively contact the technical support department to reset it manually for you.

8. I would like to be logged in automatically when I complete my order?
  • Internet Explorer don’t allow for the “remember me” option upon login. Mozilla Firefox, for Windows do. In Firefox if you check the “remember my details” box when you login for the first time, the web server will only keep you logged in for a present time. This prevents misuse of your account by anyone else. To stay logged in, check the box during login. However this is not recommended if you access the web server from a shared computer, e.g. library, internet cafe, university computer lab, etc.

9. I have an internet connection at work, can I download the updates at work and take it home to install?
  • Unfortunately not. Updates needs to be run on the computer where the software is installed. We can still provide you a copy of the Backgrounds, masks and scrapbook images on DVD. But the ‘product range’ will need to be downloaded from the ‘update’ window.

10. I am working from my office / work but we have a Proxy server running, what are my options?
  • The software does not support Proxy Servers – but we would like to help you find a solution – read on...
  • Please take note – most Banks, Auditors, Financial institutions and big companies use Proxy servers, there is a reason for the Proxy server being in place, ASK for permission in this regard.
  • You can disconnect your Proxy momentarily, follow the steps below.
  • We do advice speaking to your IT department first, alternatively follow the steps below.
  • Go to your Internet Browser – Internet Explorer / Mozilla Firefox
  • Click on Tools tab in the toolbar menu > Internet Options, the Internet Options window will open. Click on the Connections Tab at the top > then on the LAN Settings button at the bottom
  • Once the LAN Settings Window open you’ll see a PROXY SERVER section
  • Deselect the “Use a Proxy Server for your LAN” (the green tick)
  • Click on OK to apply the new settings.
  • REMEMBER to switch your Proxy Settings back on after you connected successfully.
  • Please take note that most companies with Proxy servers also have antivirus linked to it, you will need assistance from your IT department to disable the antivirus.

11. I have AVG antivirus, I’m working from home but I cannot connect to the server? Is it my AVG blocking the connection?
  • If it is the full version of AVG, YES, it is blocking your connection to the server.
  • You will need to explore the options of your AVG software and allow an exception for the Picasso Photo book software.
  • You have to disable the “resident shield” in your AVG software
